Cookie information

Version 1.0
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]

This page explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on the AenVault website at aenvault.com, and how you can make, change or withdraw your choices. It can be viewed without signing in.

Summary of key points

This summary is provided for convenience only. The full text below applies.

  • Two categories. Strictly necessary cookies are used without your consent. Non-essential cookies and scripts are used only if you consent (Article 2).
  • Referral cookie. If you consent, a referral cookie and a copy in your browser's local storage keep the referral code of a partner's link, so that the partner can be credited if you buy a Capsule. If you do not consent, nothing is stored for this purpose and no referral code is passed to checkout (Article 3).
  • Purchase notifications. The Payment Provider sends notifications of purchases to our referral-tracking service whatever your cookie choice, because these notifications do not pass through your browser (Article 3.6).
  • Payments. The Payment Provider's checkout may use its own cookies and similar technologies, which are described in the Payment Provider's own notices (Article 4).
  • Your choice. A banner on your first visit lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time through the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer. If you withdraw your consent, the referral cookie and the copy in local storage are deleted from your browser (Article 5).

Article 1 — About This Cookie Information

1.1. Scope. This Cookie information applies when you use the AenVault website at aenvault.com (the "Platform"), whether or not you are signed in. This includes visiting public pages, creating an account, creating or purchasing a Capsule, viewing opened Capsules or the Archive, and making a Report or a request.

1.2. What cookies and similar technologies are. Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. In this Cookie information, "cookies" also includes similar technologies that store information in your browser or read information already stored there, such as local storage, and scripts that use them. Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Others remain for a set period or until they are deleted.

1.3. Who we are. In this Cookie information, "AenVault", "we" and "us" mean the operator of the Platform named on the Platform's Legal Notice page, which can be viewed without signing in.

1.4. Related documents and terms used. This Cookie information should be read together with the Privacy Policy, which explains how personal data is processed, the Terms of Service and the Legal Notice page. Capitalised terms that are not defined here, such as "Capsule", "Content", "Report" and "Payment Provider", have the meanings given in the Terms of Service.

1.5. Mandatory rights. Nothing in this Cookie information removes or limits any right you have under applicable data protection, electronic communications or consumer law that cannot be waived or limited by contract (Article 1.7 of the Terms of Service). Where such a right applies, a provision of this Cookie information applies only to the extent that law permits.

Article 2 — Categories of Cookies

2.1. Two categories. We use two categories of cookies on the Platform:

CategoryWhat it is used forYour consent
Strictly necessaryKeeping you signed in; protecting the Platform and its forms against abuse and automated requests; applying rate limits; and remembering your cookie choiceNot required. These cookies are always active.
Non-essentialThe referral-tracking script, the referral cookie and the copy of the referral code in your browser's local storage (Article 3)Required. They are used only after you consent, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.

The cookies and similar technologies of the Payment Provider's checkout are described separately in Article 4.

2.2. Strictly necessary cookies. Strictly necessary cookies are used only for the purposes listed in Article 2.1. Without them, parts of the Platform, such as signing in and staying signed in, cannot work. They do not require your consent and cannot be switched off in the "Cookie preferences" panel.

2.3. Non-essential cookies. Any cookie or script that is not used solely for the purposes of strictly necessary cookies is non-essential. Non-essential cookies are written, and non-essential scripts are loaded, only after you consent.

2.4. Before you choose, and if you do not consent. Until you consent, no non-essential cookie is written and no non-essential script is loaded. If you reject non-essential cookies, this remains the case.

Article 3 — The Referral Cookie

3.1. Partner links. Partners, such as content creators, may share links to the Platform that contain a referral code. The referral code shows which partner's link brought you to the Platform, so that the partner can be credited if you buy a Capsule.

3.2. If you consent. If you consent to non-essential cookies, the Platform loads a script of our referral-tracking service. The referral-tracking service can then record your visit from the partner's link. The referral code is stored in a referral cookie and in a copy kept in your browser's local storage. It is read again when you buy a Capsule and passed to checkout, and it is then stored in your purchase and payment records (Article 7.1 of the Privacy Policy). Your consent is the legal basis for the referral cookie and the related browser storage (Article 3.1 of the Privacy Policy).

3.3. How long they remain. The referral cookie remains in your browser for a limited period set in the referral-tracking service. The copy in local storage has no expiry date and remains until it is deleted. Both are deleted from your browser if you withdraw your consent (Article 5.3). You can also delete them through your browser settings (Article 5.7).

3.4. If you do not consent. If you do not consent, the referral-tracking script is not loaded, the referral cookie and the copy in local storage are not written, and no referral code is passed to checkout.

3.5. Your choice does not affect the Service. Your choice about the referral cookie does not affect whether you can use the Platform, create an account or buy a Capsule.

3.6. Purchase notifications do not depend on your choice. The Payment Provider sends notifications of purchases made on the Platform directly to the referral-tracking service. This happens whatever your cookie choice, including for purchases made without a referral code, because these notifications are sent between the Payment Provider and the referral-tracking service and do not pass through your browser. These notifications, and information that the referral-tracking service obtains from the Payment Provider about a purchase, may include your email address (Article 7.3 of the Privacy Policy). Your cookie choice decides only whether a referral code is stored in your browser and passed to checkout.

3.7. What partners receive. Partners do not have access to Content or to the personal data of the people who buy Capsules (Article 7.4 of the Privacy Policy).

Article 4 — The Payment Provider's Checkout

4.1. Payment outside our systems. Payments for Capsules are taken outside AenVault's own systems, through the Payment Provider used for the relevant transaction. You enter your payment details in the Payment Provider's checkout, which is displayed within your dashboard on the Platform. We do not receive or store your card details (Article 6.1 of the Privacy Policy).

4.2. The Payment Provider's cookies and similar technologies. The Payment Provider's checkout may use cookies and similar technologies under the Payment Provider's own notices. Before you complete a purchase, the checkout step and the Payment Provider's terms and privacy notice tell you which Payment Provider is handling the transaction (Article 6.2 of the Privacy Policy). The Payment Provider's own notices describe the cookies and similar technologies of its checkout. They are not listed in this Cookie information.

4.3. Managing them. You can block or delete these cookies and similar technologies through your browser settings (Article 5.7). Blocking them may affect how the checkout works.

Article 5 — Your Choices

5.1. The banner. When you first visit the Platform, a banner on its public pages asks whether you accept non-essential cookies. It is shown whether or not you are signed in. The options to accept and to reject are equally easy to use. Until you choose to accept, no non-essential cookie is written and no non-essential script is loaded (Article 2.4).

5.2. Changing your choice. You can change your choice at any time through the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer of the Platform. The "Cookie preferences" panel shows the two categories and lets you switch non-essential cookies on or off.

5.3. Withdrawing your consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time through the "Cookie preferences" link. When you withdraw your consent:

  • the referral cookie and the copy of the referral code in local storage are deleted from your browser;
  • the referral-tracking script is no longer loaded; and
  • no referral code is passed to checkout.

Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it, such as a referral code already passed to checkout. Your rights over personal data that has already been collected are set out in Article 13 of the Privacy Policy.

5.4. When we ask again. If the text of the cookie banner or the categories of cookies change, we ask for your choice again.

5.5. Where your choice is kept. Your choice is remembered by a strictly necessary cookie in the browser you use. If you delete your cookies or clear your browser storage, or if you use another browser or device, the banner may ask for your choice again.

5.6. Accepting our documents is not consent. Your acceptance of the Terms of Service, your having taken note of the Privacy Policy and any confirmation you give at checkout are not consent to non-essential cookies (Articles 3.2 and 12.2 of the Privacy Policy). Only your choice in the banner or in the "Cookie preferences" panel is.

5.7. Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and clear local storage. If you block or delete strictly necessary cookies, parts of the Platform, such as signing in and staying signed in, may not work, and your cookie choice may no longer be remembered.

Article 6 — Contact and Changes

6.1. Contact. If you have a question about this Cookie information or about how your personal data is processed through cookies, contact us using the details in Article 1.2 of the Privacy Policy. The operator's identity and legal contact details are also published on the Legal Notice page.

6.2. Changes. We may update this Cookie information for valid reasons, including a change in the law, in the cookies and similar technologies we use, in the services we use or in the operator. The current version of this Cookie information and the date on which it takes effect are published on the Platform. If the categories of cookies change, we ask for your choice again (Article 5.4).
